Amazon has successfully completed an initial test of delivery drones in Italy, marking the first European country for this service.
The test took place on December 4 in San Salvo, a town in the central Abruzzo region, and utilized the new MK-30 drone with advanced automation and Amazon’s computer vision program for safe navigation.
The MK-30 drone weighs around 36 kilos, has a range of 24 kilometers for a round trip, and can deliver packages of up to 2.5 kilos.
The company’s drone technology aims to navigate safely around obstacles, ensuring the well-being of individuals, animals, and property while maintaining airspace separation. Amazon collaborated with Italian authorities to ensure compliance and safety standards for the drone operation.
Prime Air drone deliveries are already operational in select U.S. locations and the UK is targeted for drone deliveries by the end of the year.
Amazon’s drone delivery service represents a significant advancement in logistics and technology, with plans for further expansion and integration into global operations.
