Meta Launches AI Business Agent to Automate CX Across Messaging Apps

Meta has announced the launch of Meta Business Agent, a new AI-driven tool designed to help organizations automate customer interactions and scale personalized experiences across WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram.

The rollout includes the Meta Business Agent Platform, a new infrastructure layer that allows enterprises to build, customize, and deploy these agents at scale while integrating with existing tech stacks.

Scaling Conversational AI

The Meta Business Agent is designed to handle high volumes of customer inquiries without the need for constant human intervention. According to Meta, more than one million businesses are already utilizing the agent on WhatsApp and Messenger to provide 24/7 support.

The agent is capable of performing several core CX functions, including:

  • Answering business-specific queries.
  • Providing product recommendations from a digital catalog.
  • Booking appointments and qualifying leads.
  • Closing sales directly within the chat interface.

Meta stated: “We’re introducing Meta Business Agent, which lets businesses of all sizes increase their output and deliver personalized experiences for customers using AI.”

The tool also features a human-in-the-loop capability, allowing businesses to define specific triggers for when a live team member should step in to provide support.

Operational Insights and Integration

Beyond customer-facing roles, the tool is intended to assist with internal operations. Meta is testing a morning briefing feature that summarizes missed overnight chats and provides thread insights. Future updates are expected to include market research capabilities and calendar management.

For larger organizations, the Meta Business Agent Platform offers enterprise-grade controls and guardrails. The platform supports integrations with a variety of third-party systems, including Shopify, Zendesk, and Shopee.

“We’re also introducing the Meta Business Agent Platform, which gives businesses the infrastructure to build, customize, and deploy their Business Agents at scale,” the company noted.

Availability and Discovery

The Business Agent is currently being expanded to businesses of all sizes globally. While initial access is free, Meta plans to move toward a paid subscription model in the coming months. To improve discoverability, Meta is also updating WhatsApp’s search functionality, allowing users to find AI-powered businesses by name, phone number, or shared contact cards.

The Shift Toward Agentic Commerce

By integrating directly with heavyweights like Zendesk and Shopify, Meta is positioning its messaging ecosystem as a primary commerce engine rather than just a communication channel.

For the CX industry, this move lowers the barrier to entry for sophisticated automation, allowing small-to-medium businesses (SMBs) to offer the same level of responsiveness as major enterprises.

However, the true test for the industry will be in the guardrails Meta promises; as these agents take on more autonomy in closing sales and handling data, the balance between efficiency and brand safety will become the new frontline for CX managers.
