Burger King is pivoting its operational strategy to prioritize hospitality, rebranding restaurant managers as “Your Way Champions” in a bid to enhance the guest experience.
The move is part of a broader $2 billion investment by the Miami-based chain to modernize its 6,700 U.S. locations and improve service consistency.
The Your Way Champions, who debuted this week wearing specialized uniforms, are designed to serve as the primary point of contact for guests. Their mandate is to move away from back-of-house tasks to focus on welcoming customers, ensuring order accuracy, and proactively addressing needs in both the dining room and the drive-thru.
Tom Curtis, President of Burger King, said:
Tom Curtis, president of Burger King
“This Your Way Champion is a manager who is dedicated and whose priority is to interact with guests first. That doesn’t mean just to satisfy or take care of somebody’s problem. But it’s like the listening line. It’s to get out there and talk to people, and interact with them in the drive-thru, and most importantly in the restaurant.”
To support this shift, the company has established a new framework for how managers allocate their time. Under the new model, Burger King expects managers to spend only 20% of their time on kitchen or drive-thru expediting and 20% on administrative tasks like scheduling and ordering. The remaining 60% is to be dedicated entirely to guest-facing interactions.
Curtis added:
“The manager in charge should not be bogged down with expediting at the drive-thru or back in the kitchen making sandwiches. Now they have to do that from time to time. But that really should be 20% of their time. Twenty percent of their time should be dedicated to training and writing schedules and ordering food. And then 60% of their time should be guest facing.”
Alongside the staffing changes, Burger King is introducing a Whopper Guarantee. If a customer’s burger is not served hot or to their specific instructions, the restaurant will remake the sandwich on the spot and provide a coupon for a free Whopper for a future visit. This follows recent quality adjustments to the signature burger, including updates to the bun, mayonnaise, and packaging.
Burger King’s shift toward Your Way Champions signals a significant trend in the QSR (Quick Service Restaurant) industry: the transition from purely transactional efficiency to empowered hospitality.
By explicitly mandating that 60% of a manager’s time be guest-facing, Burger King is attempting to bridge the human gap that often exists in high-volume fast food. The move acknowledges that in an era of increasing automation and digital ordering, the presence of a visible, empowered problem-solver is a key differentiator for brand loyalty.
